St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: All eyes will be on talented saxophonist Brent Birckhead as he tours with his ensemble of critically acclaimed jazz musicians throughout the Eastern Caribbean!
Today we’re excited to introduce you to the talented, award-winning Brent Birckhead. Under the tutelage of Louis Tibbs and Charlie Young, Brent Birckhead has become a dynamically versatile saxophonist and master of many genres, establishing himself as one of the bright young voices of his generation.
It is rare to find an academician who is equally comfortable as a performer, but Brent Birckhead is that rarity. Earning undergraduate and graduate degrees in Jazz History from Howard University, Brent was named best blues/pop/rock soloist and most outstanding instrumental jazz soloist by Downbeat Magazine as part of the prestigious magazine’s annual Student Music Awards in 2010. In 2011 Brent was named “Best Alto Saxophonist” by the Washington City Paper. The Baltimore native’s talent has led him to share the stage with many legendary performers including Benny Golson, Joe Chambers, Eric Benet, Dwele, and many more. Birckhead has also performed at some of the world’s most legendary venues such as Blue Note NYC, Smoke Jazz and Supper Club, Blues Alley, and Apollo Theater. In 2014, Birckhead joined the faculty of Morgan State University.
