St. John’s, Antigua: Government House was the recipient of an automated external defibrillator or heart resuscitation machine from the Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Department in the Ministry of Health.

Making the donation to His Excellency, the Governor General of Antigua and Barbuda were Mr. Marlon Destin, Administrative Supervisor and his deputy Ms. Vermalie Brodie. Mr. Destin stated that on a previous occasion, a cursory glance of the Government House revealed that the equipment was not a part of the emergency response system of the Office.

Following further discussions the representatives from the EMS Department also offered to provide training in basic first aid and cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR).

In his response, the Governor General expressed his gratitude and that of the Management and staff of his Office for the timely gift and training offer. Sir Rodney commended the EMS Department for their keen observation and for taking the initiative to enhance the preparedness of the staff at Government House. He has also had high praises for the service the EMS Department provides to the nation of Antigua and Barbuda on a daily basis.

The EMS Office is located on the Queen Elizabeth Highway.
