St. John’s, Antigua and Barbuda: After much public debate as to whether Monday 28th December will or will not be observed as a Public holiday, a final decision has been made.
On Wednesday 16th December the Minister of Labour the Hon. Steadroy Cutie Benjamin along with representatives from the Trade Union Congress (TUC) and the Employers Federation after lengthy discussion and a thorough review of the law and especially the Public Holidays Amendment Act number 8 of 2005, it was agreed that Monday 28th December 2015 will be a normal working day.
All Citizens are advised that this decision was arrived at by the Trade Union Congress, Employees Federation and the Minister of Labour. The Cabinet of Antigua and Barbuda agrees with this decision.
The Public Holidays (Amendment) Act, 2005, Section 8 provides as follows:
“The 26th day of December, the day after Christmas When Christmas Day falls on a Saturday the following Monday should be a public holiday, and if Christmas Day Falls on a Sunday, then the next following Monday and Tuesday shall be public Holidays.”
